Sunday Night Call Week of 8-16-21

Good Evening Sierra Madre Parents & Students, this is Mr. Newsom with some important information about the upcoming week at our middle school.

Daily Health Screenings
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, all members of our school community must conduct a Daily Health Screening before entering campus. To expedite this screening at the gate, you may conduct a self-screening at home by asking yourself the following questions:

  • Do I have a fever?
  • Do I have a cough?
  • Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
  • Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
  • Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
  • In the last two weeks, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, and/or you are feeling sick you need to stay home and contact our main office.  If you can’t speak to someone right away, please leave a message. We also recommend that you contact your medical provider.

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up
We thank you for your patience as we all learn how to navigate our Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up at full capacity.  In order to increase the flow of traffic we ask that you please turn right when entering and exiting the parking lot.  Thank you as always for protecting the safety of our students during these times of high traffic each day.

Parent Portal & Parent Canvas Accounts
Two valuable tools for parents to utilize in supporting their child are the Parent Portal and Parent Canvas Account.  For information on how to access the Parent Portal and how to create a Parent Canvas Account please visit our SMMS Parents page.

Service Club
Our SMMS Service Club encourages Sierra Madre Middle School students to engage in opportunities that help their school and greater communities.  Started by parents over ten years ago, it continues to be an activity that is sponsored and advised by our parents with the support of the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Madre.  During the 2021-22 school year our volunteer parent leadership will be once again provided by Dr. Allison Evans.  Dr. Evans will be hosting monthly Zoom calls to share opportunities for volunteering as well as discussing volunteerism, and learning from guest speakers.  If you are interested in joining this year’s Service Club please complete the attached application and return it to the Main Office.  For additional information regarding our SMMS Service Club, please visit our SMMS Students page.

LCFF Household Income Survey
Please make certain to complete the LCFF Household Income Survey, as this will help to ensure that our school receives all of the state and federal funds for which it qualifies. Parents may submit this form one of two ways.

  • Complete the household income form as part of the data confirmation in parent portal at the start of the current school year
  • Visit to complete the form.

For information about all of these events and more, please be certain to visit our school website at and like us on facebook as well.

Have a wonderful evening, and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
