Dr. Sandra Thomas of Bright Future Scholars is looking for candidates for the Bright Future Scholars program. She is looking for African American students with a 2.5 GPA or above to engage in leadership development.  Please see Dr. Gonzalez for the paperwork.

It is my pleasure to inform you that because of your excellent academic achievement, you have been selected
and duly qualified through the Pasadena Unified School District, your school, and the Quality of Life Center,
Inc. to participate in the Bright Futures Scholars Leadership Development Program. By maintaining
your excellent grade point average (2.5 and above), you have shown your determination to achieve a quality
education. This kind of loyalty and allegiance speaks well of you and we are proud to offer you this opportunity
to be a part of the Bright Futures Scholars family. A family that has been in existence since 2004 and has had
the pleasure of training more than 8,000 young leaders.
This extremely innovative program is designed to be enjoyable and to showcase young scholars such as yourself
and your peers. It offers leadership development, esteem building, and training in specialized socialization. Our
ultimate goal is to assist you in your quest for higher education, and also to provide you with the tools needed to
be marketable in today’s society.
One of the highlights of this scholar program is that you will be mentored by our community’s renowned
leaders. Committed mentors to date include: Congressman Adam Schiff, Congresswoman Judy Chu, State
Senator Anthony Portantino, Past Senator Carol Liu, Assemblymember Chris Holden, Los Angeles County
Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Past Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich (Honorary Dean),
Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, Pasadena City Council Member Tyron Hampton, Altadena Town
Councilmember Dr. Sandra E. Thomas, Altadena Town Council Chair Billy Malone, Altadena Chamber of
Commerce President Doug Colliflower, PUSD Superintendent Dr. Brian McDonald, Ret. Los Angeles County
Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby, Past Altadena Sheriff’s Station Captain Marjorie Jacobs, Altadena Sheriff’s Station
Captain Jabari Williams.
If you plan to participate in the 2022-2023 Bright Futures Scholars Leadership Development Program, please
return all three forms immediately. Slots are limited, so your immediate response is necessary.
Applications will be accepted on a first-received basis, until the program is full. Incomplete applications
will not be accepted. Please print and fill out completely all three attached forms: Application Form,
Photography Release, and Income Information Form. Scan and email all completed forms to:
brightfuturescholars@gmail.com. Feel free to email any questions to this same email address. (If you are
not able to scan and email, please snail-mail your forms to Quality of Life Center, Inc., 730 East Altadena
Drive, Altadena, CA 91001.)
Meetings are held online. You will be notified by email of all program activities and meeting dates. Please
make sure that your email and telephone number are correct on your forms.
