The Saban Research Institute of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles- 24 internships- Application opens Nov 7

Dear Colleagues,

The Saban Research Institute of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a leader in pediatric research, is offering up to 24 paid summer research internships for the 2023-2024 Samuels Family Latino and African American High School Internship Program, better known as LA-HIP. LA-HIP is for rising seniors (current juniors) with an interest in a career in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and who attend public high schools in greater Los Angeles. LA-HIP combines biomedical research with intensive college counseling workshops, academic enhancement, and Princeton Review SAT preparatory curriculum. We are reaching out to see if you would be interested in passing along this opportunity to your students. Please see the attached informational session flyer, program flyer and brochure for distribution.

We have scheduled 3 virtual informational sessions throughout November to January. In those sessions, we will go into detail to explain our eligibility criteria, program offerings, and application tips. Please use the attached Informational Session document so your students can register.

If the virtual info session dates do not work for your students, we are also currently scheduling virtual visits to attend classroom sessions and career fairs. Please email me, , for availability and scheduling.

The summer program begins June 26th, 2023 and ends with the Science Symposium in early August. The internship is daily Monday through Friday for this seven-week period.  The program provides a stipend, Metro pass, and meals in the hospital cafeteria. After the summer has ended, the students continue to meet with their assigned college counselor from the summer. The application can be found on our website when it opens November 7, 2022. If you would like to learn more about our program and see where our interns have ended up, please visit

We are looking for academically promising students with a passion for science and I hope you could help us identifying qualified students (currently juniors) at your school. We hope that you will present this opportunity to your students!
