2022 YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN’S CONFERENCE
“Beyond Our Circumstances … Creating Our Destiny”
What: A conference specifically designed for middle and high school African American females to inspire, encourage, motivate, and provide tools to help realize career, educational and life goals. This year’s theme is “Beyond Our Circumstances… Creating our Destiny”. A conference where young women can imagine, dream, and set goals for their future. The theme is meant to empower young women to create their own narrative in today's climate and define their own excellence. The conference includes a Parent/Guardian symposium.
Who: Middle and high school (grades 6- 12) young women, and their parent/guardian are the target audience for this conference.
Demographics: The Young African American Women’s Conference is focused on African American girls and parents/guardians living in the Pasadena/Altadena and its surrounding communities. There is an intentional focus on girls living in low-income and disenfranchised communities. Today, YAAWC has expanded to other surrounding counties in Southern California, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Santa Clarita, San Fernando, Orange, Pomona, Riverside and San Diego.
When: Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 8:30a.m. to 1:00p.m.
Where: Pasadena City College, 1570 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91106.
Features: The conference will consist of diverse workshops and engaging presentations on educational choices and career options, embracing each youth’s uniqueness, as well as personal development. Additionally, a keynote speaker will address all the participants during the general session; a Resource Fair will be available to students, including exhibitors from community, corporate and educational institutions; highlights on nutrition, fitness, and general wellness; raffle and door prizes for attendees.
Registration: Attendees may register online using Eventbrite beginning in March 2022. Registration includes carryout lunch, prizes, and conference materials. Scholarships are available. The registration deadline will begin in April 2022.
