RYLA for 10th and 11th New deadline 2/26/2020

I am reaching out to you, to see if you would be interested in applying to  attend RYLA this year. Applications are due Thursday, February 6, 2020, so that I may review them.

NEW DEADLINE  2/26/2020

What is RYLA?

RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. It is an intensive, two-and-a-half day leadership training program for high school juniors and sophomores chosen for their leadership potential. RYLA events are 3 days long and include presentations, activities, and workshops that cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Leadership fundamentals and ethics
  • Communication skills
  • Problem solving and conflict management
  • Community and global citizenship

This year, the program will take place from March 20-22nd, at Camp Cedar Crest in Running Springs, CA (near Big Bear). Clubs throughout our Rotary district (District 5300) sponsor students to attend the program. Since our district is vast (covering all of Southern California and Southern Nevada), a diverse mix of hundreds of high school students from many different cities and states, participate in this program.

The Pasadena and Altadena Rotary Club will be selecting and sponsoring high school juniors and sophomores, from the Pasadena Area high schools, to attend RYLA. The selection process is competitive and focused on leadership potential. Students must be high school juniors or sophomores and must not be 18 years old by March 20th. Students must also be ready, willing and able to commit to attend the entirety of the program, from March 20th -22nd. Since the student will be sponsored by our local club, the student will not have to pay any cost to attend and will also be provided with free transportation to and from the camp.

Former Participants from John Muir High School include: Haley Cogshell, Ashley Hackett, Nadine McDaniels, Hasan Spenser, Natalie Casal, Felisha Davis, David Kendbrew, Daniela Trujillo, Makana Woods Vanessa Sanchez, Maximiliano Diaz, John Humphrey, Goyahkla Robles, Alize Rocha, Mason Usher, Saudia Usher, Jennifer Cuevas, Jackelin Marinero, and Imani Hayes. They can tell you what a wonderful experience it was and how great it looks on college applications. They all enjoyed the activities and social interactions!

Please fill out the attached forms and they will be sent to both, the Pasadena and Altadena, Rotary clubs.

Thank you!!!!!
