On Saturday, August 7th, the PUSD Families in Transition (FIT) team partnered with the Salvation Army - Pasadena Tabernacle in its annual Back-To-School Backpack Giveaway. Over 150 backpacks were given to PUSD students from grades K-12 whose families participated in the joint PUSD FIT-Salvation Army food assistance program during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each backpack included school supplies, age-appropriate toiletries, snacks, and a $50 Target gift card. The event was a drive-thru venture in the parking lot of the Salvation Army - Pasadena Tabernacle on E. Walnut St. Families arrived at their appointed time and were greeted by Salvation Army, PUSD FIT, and Pasadena Lions Club volunteers who put the students' backpacks in the trunk of the family's waiting vehicle. PUSD FIT and the Salvation Army - Pasadena Tabernacle collaborate on several annual events and services benefitting PUSD families. This PUSD-Salvation Army collaboration has been going strong for over 20 years.
