Pasadena Unified Hosts Innovation Exposition May 11

For Immediate Release:

May 9, 2018

Pasadena, CA – Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) is hosting the 2018 Innovation Exposition, the annual celebration of student achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) on May 11, 2018, at Washington STEAM Magnet Academy.

PUSD student inventions, 3D printing projects, environmental innovations, and science fiction creations will be on display. Students from kindergarten-8th grade conceived ideas and developed them into projects that will be presented at the Innovation Exposition. To enhance the celebration, the Caltech Center for Teaching, Learning & Outreach is providing  fun and interactive STEM activities for kids of all ages.

Unique to Pasadena’s role as a world-class center for science and innovation, PUSD students in 4-8th grade who enter the annual STEM competition can have projects reviewed by a panel of astronomers, engineers, scientists, and researchers who live or work locally.

“The Innovation Exposition is designed to ignite kids’ curiosity in STEM and to turn their ideas into reality,” said Jodi Marchesso, the district’s STEM curriculum coach. “We’re inspiring students to to    think critically, explore their interests and talents in STEM, and become the leading scientists, engineers, and astronomers of tomorrow.”

While students in kindergarten-third grade do not compete, they are encouraged to work in small groups that can include parents and mentors to foster collaboration and communication skills.

Public viewing and a reception will be held from 5 – 6 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit

The Innovation Exposition is hosted at Washington STEAM Magnet Academy, a middle school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.  The school will offer a Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program in 2018-2019
