For Immediate Release:

Sierra Madre Elementary STEAM Classroom Ribbon Cutting

Pasadena, CA – Sierra Madre Elementary School students, faculty, parents, elected officials and community members will celebrate a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday, May 22, 2017 at 7:45 a.m. to mark the opening of the school’s new Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) portable classroom. The ceremony will be held during the school’s regular morning assembly.

The ribbon cutting will be followed by a tour of the classroom and interactive STEAM activities.

The STEAM classroom consists of science labs and learning spaces, including an outdoor learning lab and planter boxes, engineering blocks, and a 3D printer.

Opening of the STEAM classroom enhances science and environmental learning at Sierra Madre Elementary and supports the Next Generation Science Standards.  In addition to a drought-resistant garden and koi pond, the school conserves water by collecting rainwater in barrels which is then used to irrigate landscaping.

The ceremony marks the completion of the portable classroom which was funded by Measure TT, the $350 million school bond initiative approved by voters in 2008.

Built in 1930, the Sierra Madre campus serves 694 prekindergarten through fifth grade students.
