Open Enrollment for the 2020-2021 School Year

2020-2021 Open Enrollment Sibling & Priority Registration Begins Monday, December 9,2019 and continues through 12 noon Friday, January 10, 2020.

The Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) annual Open Enrollment-School Choice for the 2020-2021 academic year begins Monday, December 9, 2019 with Sibling & Priority Registration. Sibling & Priority Registration takes place at schools, not at the District Office. Registration must be completed by 12 noon on Friday, January 10, 2020 - no exceptions.

Once a family completes priority registration, their child is pre-enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year and may not participate in any other phase of Open Enrollment School Choice. Permits for siblings will not be issued after 12 noon on Friday, January 10, 2020.  Families who miss Sibling Registration may try for placement by applying during lottery phases of Open Enrollment School Choice.

Open Enrollment Sibling & Priority Registration is for:

Siblings - Pre enrollment is offered to brothers and sisters residing at the same address of a child currently attending a PUSD school that is not the school of residence.  To qualify, siblings must attend the same school together.

Dual Language Immersion Program (DLIP) - Eighth grade students in Sierra Madre's Dual Language Immersion Program - Mandarin Chinese who plan to continue DLIP Mandarin Chinese in high school may pre-enroll at Pasadena High School. 

Documents required for sibling registration and priority pre-enrollment:

  • Birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate, immigration certificate, bible record
  • Proof of current immunizations
  • Recent utility bill - gas, water or electric - in the parent/guardian name
  • Proof of parent/guardian rent/ownership within PUSD boundaries:
    • Deed of trust
    • Property tax bill
    • Lease agreement
    • Rental agreement with recent payment receipt

In addition beginning December 9, 2019 Requests to Relinguish Permits to Attend School of Residence (Submitted at District Office) - This is for students who are currently on a permit for the 2019-2020 school year and wish to enroll at their school of residence for the 2020-2021 school year.

Students currently in the 8th grade may enroll at their assigned school at this time.

Beginning January 9 - January 31, 2020 Online Open Enrollment Applications will be accepted. Including PUSD Employees.

  • All applicants except PUSD Employees, must live within PUSD Boundaries.  Verifications will be required.
  • Application period will open at 9:00 am on January 9 and close at 4:30 pm on January 31.
  • PUSD employees must submit employee ID# on application.

While all students who live within PUSD boundaries are assured placement in their neighborhood school, the district’s annual Open Enrollment-School Choice offers families an opportunity to apply to themed, magnet, or specialized schools and programs outside the boundaries of their school of residence. 

Applications are submitted online ONLY through the district's website. If you have an incoming student who wants to attend Pasadena High School but you do not reside in the Pasadena High School attendance zone you must submit an application through this Open Enrollment period.  To check your address to see which school is your school of attendance go here.

At the time you submit your application you have the option to select Pasadena High School or one of our signature Pathway programs: Creative Arts and Media Design (CAMAD)Law and Public Service (LPS) or the APP Academy: Mobile, Web & Game Development.

Requests to Relinquish Permits to Attend School of Residence (Submitted at District Office) - Students who are currently on a permit for the 2019-2020 school year and wish to enroll at their school of residence for the 2020-2021 school year.

Transitioning to 6th and 9th grade (Register at school of residence) - Students currently in a traditional elementary or middle school who wish to enroll at thier assigned schools may register at this time.
