Introducing Our Newest Eagle Scout!
Congratulations to Nicholas (Nico) Manes '20 on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Eagle Scout is the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Nico has been in Scouting since the first grade, when his mom was the Cub Scout Leader of the Mayfield Junior School Den with Pack 87 in Pasadena. He received the Arrow of Light as a Webelo and then became a Boy Scout with Troop 355 in San Marino. Nico has been in Scouting for 11 years.
He told us that he enjoys being in the Instructor role because it gives him the chance to work with younger Scouts and teach them what he learned from the older Scouts who were his mentors.
For his Eagle Project he built a 8 x 4 foot recycling bin with wheels, out of wood slats, for a school that was starting a recycling program and needed a receptacle to put all their bottles in. Nico solicited over $1,000 worth of materials that were donated by all of the local hardware stores to do the project. Nico and his numerous volunteers spent over 100 hours building the recycling bin.
Nico has been on many fishing camping trips with the Scouts, but his favorite was the 2017 National Jamboree. On this trip they visited historic sights in Boston, NY, and Philadelph and then spent 10 days camping at the Bechtel Summit Reserve in West Virginia.
As an Eagle Scout, Nico would like to continue to help the Scouts in his Troop and told us that he will probably become a Boy Scout Leader one day in the future.
Congratulations Nico! We are so very proud of your accomplishments.
