Congratulations to Pasadena High School outstanding senior, Oliver Rodas, who just received a full four-year scholarship to Duke University through the QuestBridge National College Match scholarship program. Oliver applied through QuestBridge National College Match, a national program that pairs high-achieving, low-income high school seniors with full scholarships to the nation’s top colleges. After receiving a record-high of 14,491 applications, from which QuestBridge chose 5,338 as Finalists, Oliver is one of 767 exceptional students who have been selected as this year’s College Match Scholarship Recipients. This represents an all-time high for QuestBridge, with a 17% increase in College Matches compared to last year’s high of 657. QuestBridge’s college partners include top liberal arts colleges such as Amherst, Colby, Pomona, and Williams and research universities such as Brown, Columbia, Duke, Stanford, and Yale. Over 75% of Quest scholars are among the first generation in their family to attend college, and over 70% are in the top 5% of their graduating class. The QuestBridge scholarship covers all aspects of an academic career, including tuition, books and supplies, personal expenses, room and board, travel, and federal work-study – which at Duke University will total over $280,000 for four years.
Oliver is a topnotch student at Pasadena High School. He’s a recognized College Board AP Scholar with Distinction, a member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and National Honor Society (NHS), an active scholar in the UC Puente Project, and a perennial participant in the Partnership For Success (PFS) summer academic enrichment program. He is also avidly and actively involved with the Pasadena Ambassador Youth Program, a City of Pasadena program that provides job experience for high school students through active participation in special city or organizational events. Oliver’s exemplary academic achievement and community involvement represent the pillars of most QuestBridge Scholars.
Since 2003, the QuestBridge College Match has successfully connected over 4,000 students with full scholarships to college partners. These prestigious scholarships are generously provided to recipients by the colleges. Many more students are admitted later in the year through QuestBridge Regular Decision and all Finalists who ultimately matriculate to a QuestBridge college partner become QuestBridge Scholars.
