10th Grade Personal Projects Nearing Due Date

Project deadlines It's that time of year again! Time to wrap up work on 10th grade IB Personal Projects!

Project is to be completed by March 15, 2019
Report is to be completed by March 29, 2019
Students can see Ms. Brambila or their supervisor if they have questions. The website will be updated shortly with a revised edition of the packet outlining the Personal Project, but all 10th graders received hard copy and digital versions of the packet.

One of the great things about International Baccalaureate (IB) programs is how students take charge of their own learning. Students have opportunities to choose where they want to dig deeper and pursue further knowledge. The highest example of this in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is the 10th grade Personal Project.  The MYP Personal Project is not part of regular schoolwork but completed outside of class time over a period of several months. The topic is completely up to each student.

In recent years at Blair, students have undertaken oral histories of family elders or veterans, written graphic novels, researched heritage in family recipes, created a book on feminism, studied dreams, learned and applied drafting software, produced a musical, pursued how to train and then successfully complete a marathon, planned and took a solo mountain trek, took on scientific research, tackled a foreign language...and all kinds of other interesting project ideas.

Another distinctive of the IB approach that inquiry and discovery is followed by reflection. No matter the Personal Project topic, all students must keep a journal recording their reflections as they experienced the project at each step.

All 10th grade Personal Projects will be presented to the student body, and a variety of projects will be showcased to the entire Blair community at Open House on April 17.

The Personal Project is the culmination of students' experience in the IB Middle Years Programme from grades 6 through 10, and prepares them for the challenge of the individual research project, the Extended Essay, in the IB Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grade.
