Blair Senior and IB Diploma Candidate Audrey Cameron Named to Royal Court
Loud cheers were heard on campus Oct. 4th when this year’s Tournament of Roses Royal Court was announced, with Blair’s own Audrey Cameron chosen as a Princess. The celebration began as soon as the words, “a senior from Blair High School” were heard. Audrey, 17, is a Blair senior and IB Diploma candidate.
Audrey is the only princess from Pasadena Unified School District on the Court. Blair is proud to now have back-to-back princesses in the Royal Court, as Donaly Marquez was a 2016 Royal Court Princess. Donaly is attending Cal State Dominguez Hills but came to assist at this year’s announcement ceremony.
The 2017 Rose Court Princesses and Queen were crowned on Oct. 20 in a grand coronation event at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Audrey was chosen as a princess from almost 800 applicants during a month-long selection process. Criteria include poise, speaking ability, academic achievement, and community and school involvement. Audrey and the Royal Court will represent the Tournament of Roses and Pasadena at almost 100 events, most notably in the Rose Parade on Jan. 2, 2017.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) drew Audrey to come to Blair at tenth grade. She maintains top academic standards even with the rigor of the full Diploma requirements, as well as demonstrating leadership in many Blair activities. Audrey competes for Blair on the cross country team and track team, and serves as Blair PTSA’s liaison to athletics. As a member of the PTSA Board, she is an articulate advocate for all of Blair’s student athletes and sports. She advises students in two Blair mentor programs, SWAMP and IB Mentors, is vice president of the National Honor Society and a leader in student government as ASB Sports Commissioner.
An accomplished musician, Audrey plays the violin and piano, studies at the Colburn Community School for Performing Arts and is violin first chair in the Lake Avenue Community Orchestra. Audrey is active in her Pasadena church, and volunteers with her church once a month serving meals at Union Station. She also volunteers with Pasadena Food Forward, non-profit connecting local fresh produce to people in need through collecting unsold farmers’ market produce and backyard harvesting.
For college, Audrey plans to study liberal arts, with an eye to attending medical school in the future. Her IB English teacher Ms. Reyes-Rothner describes Audrey as "a highly analytical thinker who genuinely seeks knowledge for knowledge's sake. In class she is sometimes unassuming, while carefully crafting her perceptive insights in class discussions."
Audrey is the daughter of Margaret Cameron and the late Prof. Scott Cameron. Her older sister Madeleine attends college, and her brothers Liam and Luke are in 10th and 7th grades at Blair. The Camerons live in the Blair immediate neighborhood.
