AP Art and Design Program (11th & 12th)—Arts - Mr. Luis Rendon, Jr.

The AP Art and Design Program includes three different courses: AP 2-D Art and Design, AP 3-D Art and Design, and AP Drawing. In each course, students investigate materials, processes, and ideas. Students make works of art and design by practicing, experimenting, and revising, and you will communicate your ideas about art and design through written and visual expression.

 

AP English Language and Composition (11th)—English - Mr. Richard Boling 

The course content is organized into nine units of study that provide one possible sequence for the course. The units define the skills students work on as the course progresses, but your teacher can choose the content and themes that students focus on in each unit.

 

AP English Literature and Composition (12th) – English -  Dr. Mary Stevens  

Learn how to understand and evaluate works of fiction, poetry, and drama from various periods and cultures. Students read literary works and write essays to explain and support your analysis of them.

 

AP Human Geography (9th)—History and Social Sciences - Mr. Stephen Kooshian

Explore how humans have understood, used, and changed the surface of Earth. Students use the tools and thinking processes of geographers to examine patterns of human population, migration, and land use.

AP World History (10th) —History and Social Sciences - Mr. Joshua Tornek

Study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the world from c. 1200 CE to the present. Students analyze texts, visual sources, and other historical evidence and write essays expressing historical arguments.

AP U.S. History (11th)—History and Social Sciences - Ms. Andrea Flores

Study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the United States from c. 1491 to the present. Students analyze texts, visual sources, and other historical evidence and write essays expressing historical arguments.

AP Macroeconomics (12th)—History and Social Sciences - Mr. Richard Boling  

Explore the principles of economics that apply to an economic system as a whole. Students use graphs, charts, and data to analyze, describe, and explain economic concepts.

  

AP United States Government & Politics (12th)—History and Social Sciences - Mr. Richard Boling  

Study the key concepts and institutions of the political system and culture of the United States. Students read, analyze, and discuss the U.S. Constitution and other documents as well as complete a research or applied civics project.

 

AP Psychology (11th & 12th)—History and Social Sciences - Mr. Daniel Jarashow     

Explore the ideas, theories, and methods of the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Students examine the concepts of psychology through reading and discussion and students analyze data from psychological research studies.

 

AP Calculus AB—Math - Mr. Benny Wu  

Explore the concepts, methods, and applications of differential and integral calculus. Students work to understand the theoretical basis and solve problems by applying your knowledge and skills.

Explore the concepts, methods, and applications of differential and integral calculus, including topics such as parametric, polar, and vector functions, and series. Students perform experiments and investigations and solve problems by applying your knowledge and skills

Learn about the major concepts and tools used for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students explore statistics through discussion and activities, and students design surveys and experiments.

AP Computer Science (11th & 12th) –Math/Computer Science  Mr. Lewis Watson   

Get familiar with the concepts and tools of computer science as you learn a subset of the Java programming language. Students do hands-on work to design, write, and test computer programs that solve problems or accomplish tasks.

 

AP Biology-Sciences (10th)— Ms. Fara Valentine

Study the core scientific principles, theories, and processes that govern living organisms and biological systems. Students do hands-on laboratory work to investigate natural phenomena.

 

AP Chemistry-Sciences (11th) —Ms. Suengmee Seo

Learn about the fundamental concepts of chemistry including structure and states of matter, intermolecular forces, and reactions. Students do hands-on lab investigations and use chemical calculations to solve problems.

 

AP Environmental Science-Sciences (11th & 12th)—Ms. Leslie Stotlar

Explore and investigate the interrelationships of the natural world and analyze environmental problems, both natural and human-made. Students take part in laboratory investigations and field work.

 

AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based (11th & 12th)—Sciences - Mr. Benjamin Fackrell

Learn about the foundational principles of physics as you explore Newtonian mechanics; work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits. Students do hands-on laboratory work to investigate phenomena.

 

AP World Languages and Cultures-World Languages and Cultures - Ms. Connie Gálvez

Develop your Spanish language skills and learn about the cultures in Spanish-speaking parts of the world. Students practice communicating in Spanish and study real-life materials such as newspaper articles, films, music, and books

(prerequisite mastery of written & spoken Spanish Language).

AP Seminars Performance Tasks (11th)—AP Capstone Diploma - Mr. Joshua Tornek

Program Develop and practice the skills in research, collaboration, and communication that students need in any academic discipline. Students investigate topics in a variety of subject areas, write research-based essays, and design and give presentations both individually and as part of a team.

AP Research Performance Tas (12th)k-AP Capstone Diploma  - Dr. Mary Stevens 

Builds on what you learned in AP Seminar to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, or issue of individual interest. Through this exploration, you will design, plan, and conduct a year-long research based investigation to address a research question.

Introducing AP African American Studies (11th & 12th)

AP African American Studies is entering the second year of its pilot in 2023-2024. Marshall is one of approximately 700 high schools in the U.S. selected to participate. 

This interdisciplinary course examines the diversity of African American experiences through direct encounters with authentic and varied sources. Students explore key topics that extend from early African kingdoms to the ongoing challenges and achievements of the contemporary moment. Given the interdisciplinary character of African American studies, students in the course will develop skills across multiple fields, with an emphasis on developing historical, literary, visual, and data analysis skills. This course foregrounds a study of the diversity of Black communities in the United States within the broader context of Africa and the African diaspora.
