Welcome to a new school year! Together, we will offer our children an excellent educational experience as they continue to develop into respectful, safe and responsible global citizens. The information included in this letter will help us set the high expectations needed to help student excel and remain as a California Distinguished School. We are asking for your support if you drive to school, that you please enter on Rosemont Avenue and exit out and on to Pasadena Ave. When you drive in to school on Rosemont Ave please drop your children off at the north gates. DO NOT DROP OR PICK UP YOUR CHILDREN IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL. The front of our school is reserved for special needs buses, special needs students and their parents. Also, DO NOT park in handicapped spaces or occupy spaces in the drop-off zone. Street parking is available on Walnut Avenue. Unfortunately, this presents a safety concern for our students and staff. Pasadena Police frequents the school to enforce traffic rules and we want to avoid you getting a traffic violation.

At Roosevelt we strive for perfect attendance. However, we understand that children get sick and that families have emergencies. Therefore, it is our aim that student are not absent or tardy more than 5 days (98%) during the school year. Even missing five minutes a day of instructional time turns into 900 minutes of instruction missed during the school year. Daily attendance is key to academic success and gives your child a sense of being a valued citizen of the school community.
ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY HAS A MANDATORY UNIFORM POLICY. A school uniform helps promote safety and professionalism and reminds us all that our primary focus is on academics. Please help support this rule.
Parents, your child cannot be Creative or use Critical Thought without the proper tools. PLEASE make sure your child comes to school everyday with the right materials to help them learn. Your teacher will send a newsletter home listing the specific supplies you need for your grade level. Basic supplies include:
We would like to strongly encourage you to be an active member of our school and to attend all our meetings and events as well as our monthly Volunteer Day at the end of each month. Roosevelt adopts a strict screening process for all volunteers using Megan’s Law to ensure your child’s safety. Our school groups could use your participation and support in the African-American Parent Council (AAPC), the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), School Site Council (SSC), and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
Your financial support of our PTA allows the school to have monthly events for our families and staff; from these events we are able to raise funds that go toward the school. Our PTA meets once a month on Thursdays at 9:00 a.m.
Please complete the online breakfast/lunch application to determine whether your child qualifies for a free or reduced meal. The school office can assist with filling out the form. Once student applications are processed and you receive confirmation, you can expect to send your child to have a sack breakfast at school beginning at 8:15 a.m. and their lunch schedule will vary depending on their grade level. In order for your child to succeed, PUSD and Roosevelt support their healthy lifestyle by supporting a Wellness Policy. Within this policy it is our goal to remove all candy, cupcakes, sugary drinks and non-approved snack items from campus. We realize that it takes small steps, but by providing a different and fun alternative to junk food and birthday celebrations, we will enhance the students overall experience at Roosevelt. Therefore, please do not send your child to school with chips, soft drinks, candy, and unhealthy items and be advised that Birthday celebrations cannot take place in respect to all our students’ health and religious beliefs.
Please expect to receive a yellow colored Communication Folder sent every Wednesday. The folder will contain valuable information from the school and/or district including two monthly newsletters, one from the school and another from your child’s teacher, and a monthly menu from the cafeteria. The folder will contain other important documents. Please take the time to review the contents of the folder, send back papers that require signature and promptly return the folder the following day with your child. Your child will also receive a blue homework folder on Mondays with weekly homework. Always be sure that your child completes their homework in a quiet place daily, read nightly, and that you check their work, sign it before they turn it in.
