Learning a musical instrument provides options for our students future. It may open doors of opportunity like college admittance/ grants and even world travel. It is a place where ALL students can feel safe, nurturing self confidence and being accepted as part of a team, working together for a greater cause... To make great music! It is a place where students can be themselves and make life long friendships!
The Wilson instrumental music program offers a variety of options in which your music student can choose to continue learning an instrument started in elementary school or they may choose to start learning a new instrument. Wilson offers Band, Orchestra and most recently Modern Band or Rock Band.
Band includes: beginning, intermediate, and advanced band with exposure to traditional marching band, popular music and Latin Jazz. Students may choose the flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone sax, bass clarinet, French horn, baritone horn, tuba, trombone, trumpet and percussion.
Orchestra includes: beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels with exposure to baroque, classical and popular music using elements of the Suzuki method and El Sistema. Students may choose the violin, viola, cello and double bass.
Modern band: students learn guitar, bass guitar, drum set, keyboard and vocal using the pedagogy inspired by Little Kids Rock.
*All classes will have exposure to music theory including note reading and writing and music history. Also, my students often perform within the community at different events and will be required to perform locally on given weekends. Please note that Instrumental Music is an elective class and that the class available to your student will depend on their academic schedule. If you would like to volunteer in the class and share your expertise or want to help in fundraising or have any great ideas or suggestions, please contact the front office.
