• AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. 

     

    AVID is a program designed around college-readiness that helps students develop the skills they need in order to be successful in college and career. 

     The AVID Elective classes at OEB offer:

    • Support for students in rigorous classes
    • Tutorials with college tutors
    • College and career exploration
    • Field trips to local colleges
    • Guest speakers
    • A curriculum that focuses on developing WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) 
    • Leadership opportunities  

     In order to be a part of the AVID Elective class, a student must:

    • have determination to excel
    • have a 2.0+ grade point average (C average or better)
    • be interviewed by a panel of AVID Site Team members
    • A student might also be the first in his/her family to attend college
