The Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee Annual Fundraiser

February 4, 2017: The Spelling Bee Annual Fundraiser

  • Join McKinley families for drinks, snacks, and hilarious entertainment at our first-ever Spelling Bee!  Saturday, February 4th at Farnsworth park.  The creators of the Broadway's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are bringing the thrill of a live Spelling Bee to McKinley.  During the Spelling Bee, seasoned performers, improvisers and comedians acting as JUDGES will put our Speller’s skills to the test while keeping you on the edge of your seat.  Proceeds will benefit the McKinley Annual Fund which ensures arts education at every grade level.

    This is how it works:

    • Each Speller is backed by a team.  Together, teams are raising money to purchase cheats, which their Speller will use to win the Spelling Bee.
    • Cheats are like “lifelines” – spellers will use their fundraised amounts to purchase cheats so that when they’re in a bind on stage, they can get help.  This can be anything from asking the audience to looking in the dictionary.  Ultimately all of the funds will go to McKinley’s Annual Fund to support our arts programs!  NOTE:  No one is allowed to use their smart phones or other devices to help spell a word!
    • Spellers will be eliminated as words are misspelled.  The last one standing will be crowned the winner.  Our winner will take home bragging rights and a one-of-a-kind prize!
