Academics Overview

  • Dear Families,

We are pleased to announce that Cleveland Elementary has been designated a PUSD Focus School. In the 2016-2017 school year, we will receive additional support in the form of Instructional Coaches and ongoing professional development for our teachers. All teachers will be trained in Balanced Literacy, our new approach to instruction in the area of English Language Arts.

Along with the training, we will be receiving new classroom libraries, 375 books per class, and an instructional leveled library of 5,460 books that will support the academic development of our students.  Our book collections include a variety of leveled texts in different genres that are culturally diverse, as well as books related to science, social studies, the arts, and other topics that complement our existing STEAM programs.

Along with rich literacy instruction, expect high quality music, art, science, math, and engineering experiences that set us apart.  We, at Cleveland, are committed to providing our students a rigorous, balanced curriculum that will prepare them for college and career.  Our focus is giving student time to master the highest priority standards for what they need to learn and thrive.

In order to create an environment where our students can thrive, we must all, Cleveland staff, parents, students, and community members, commit to the school's Core Beliefs.

    • All students can learn and succeed when their needs are met.
    • All students have the right to a high quality education, complete with science, technology, and visual and performing arts enrichment.
    • All staff members are committed to providing our students with a rigorous, balanced curriculum that will prepare them for academic success.
    • Student achievement is dependent on the development and collaboration of all stakeholders - parents, teachers, support staff, volunteers, community partners, and of course, students.

This year's school-wide theme will be "Tap into the Light". We will approach all things from a positive and proactive perspective.  Staff and 4th-5th grade students will be trained in Strengths Academy, a method for identifying strengths in individuals.  This will help with team building and productivity.  We will learn how to utilize our strengths while acquiring new ones through collaboration with others, hard work, and practice.

Join us as we continue progress FULL STEAM AHEAD!
