Advanced Studies Program
The Advanced Studies Program at Wilson Middle School provides middle school students with a unique and personalized learning experience, essential for adolescent emotional and academic growth. The program offers a rigorous curriculum in all content areas. Students will receive instruction in Common Core math for 7th in the 6th grade. Successful students will be eligible to continue with accelerated math as they progress through each grade with proficiency.
The Advanced Studies Program will deepen students’ knowledge of academic subjects allowing them to exceed state achievement standards. All subjects are taught with an emphasis on the 4 C’s: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication. The Advanced Studies Cohort Model provides small teacher teams and highly qualified teachers that are trained for gifted education. Goal of the program is to lay the foundation for students to engage in higher level courses, including Advanced Placement, in high school.
There will be approximately 65 slots available to incoming 6th grade students provided the admission criteria are met. The program has expanded to the 7th and 8th grade years, thereby making Wilson the school of choice for highly motivated and academically advanced 6th-8th grade students in the Pasadena Unified School District.
