Teacher Certification

Requirements for Certification

To become GATE certified at PUSD, teachers must participate in 30 hours of professional development and lesson development. The goal is to not only receive researched based strategies in meeting the needs of gifted and talented learners, but also to apply these strategies in current practice. Once certified, teachers must update their certification (recertify) every 3 years. If teachers have missed two rounds (6 years) of re-certification, they must “restart” by attending 30 hours of PD. Teachers must recertify within three years or they will need to begin with the new certification process.
