About This Data

Pasadena Unified's chronic absenteeism rate reflects the number of students who were absent for 10% or more of the days they were expected to attend school during the selected academic year. The data on this page comes from the California Department of Education (CDE) DataQuest system and covers students in grades TK–12. It is based on cumulative enrollment, meaning it counts all students who were enrolled at any point during the school year, not just those present on a single census day.

A note on the California School Dashboard: The California School Dashboard reports a slightly different chronic absenteeism rate for PUSD. This is because the Dashboard uses a K–8 only student population, while the data shown here includes all grade levels TK–12. Both figures are derived from the same CALPADS data source certified by the district.

2020-21 Average Attendance by School Site

This report summarizes the average attendance rate of students. For each student, a rate of attendance is computed by dividing the number of days attended by the number of days enrolled.

In 2019-20 schools were physically closed due to a pandemic and schools were not required to record attendance after February 29, 2020. The 2019-20 school year, therefore, covers the period from the start of the school year through February 29, 2020.

2020-21 Districtwide Average Attendance by Student Ethnicity and Group

This report summarizes the average attendance rate of students. For each student, a rate of attendance is computed by dividing the number of days attended by the number of days enrolled.

In 2019-20 schools were physically closed due to a pandemic and schools were not required to record attendance after February 29, 2020. The 2019-20 school year, therefore, covers the period from the start of the school year through February 29, 2020.
