Immigration Resources

We believe that schools must be places where all students feel valued and secure. PUSD has taken proactive steps to ensure that our campuses remain safe and welcoming for all, including creating guidance, training, and support around federal immigration enforcement. Visit pusd.us/immigrationresources, a dedicated webpage with helpful resources for families navigating immigration-related concerns.

Daybreak Telehealth For Students And Families

PUSD has expanded its mental health support for students beyond the school day. To help students cope after the Eaton Fire, PUSD has partnered with Daybreak Health, a school-based mental health provider, to provide teletherapy to our students. Students can be matched with qualified clinicians for help with anxiety, depression, attention and focus, relationships, stress, and more. The service is provided free of charge to PUSD students and is available only before and after school hours, as well as Saturdays, via your personal devices. You can submit a Care Request here for your child.

Update Your Emergency Contact Information

We urge families to verify and update their children’s emergency contact information on file at school. Having up-to-date emergency contact information for students is essential so that, whether it’s a natural disaster or any other urgent concern, we can reach families quickly.

To Update Your Child’s Emergency Contact information:
Go to the Aeries Parent Portal on your browser and log in or contact the office at your school.

Update On Soil Safety

Thank you for your continued support as we work to ensure the safety and well-being of every student and staff member following the Eaton Fire.

We have completed the first phase of soil testing at all 34 PUSD campuses/locations. We are pleased to share that 16 campuses/locations have been fully cleared, and outdoor areas at those campuses are now open and safe for use.

At the remaining 18 campuses/locations, additional testing, evaluation, and agency guidance are in progress. We are working closely with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the Pasadena Public Health Department, the California Environmental Protection Agency, the California Department of Toxic Substances control, and licensed environmental consultants to ensure all efforts meet safety and regulatory standards.

While some impacted areas will remain closed as we begin the school year, we are moving as quickly – and carefully – as possible to complete this work. Protective fencing and signage will remain in place, and we are keeping school communities informed every step of the way. For the latest updates, please visit: pusd.us/firerelief-safety.

Annual Parent Notifications: Parent/Student Handbook

The Parent/Student Handbook is an annual publication containing updated information and notifications for the parents/guardians of PUSD students. It includes rights and responsibilities and district, local, state, and federal policies that impact all students. You'll find information on student and parent rights, expectations for behavior and attendance, parent involvement, calendar information, and more.

State Law Regarding the Safe Storage of Firearms

PUSD believes that all children, faculty, and staff have the right to come to school every day without fear of gun violence. California law regarding the storage of firearms includes penalties for not safely storing guns, and not disabling firearms can include thousands of dollars in fines and/or incarceration. See the annual notification letter in the PUSD Parent/Student Handbook.

Beat The Heat

PUSD has an operation plan for extreme heat. Here are some weather guidelines to stay healthy and safe:

  • Stay hydrated and drink water or electrolyte-replacement sports drinks often
  • Please send children to school next week with refillable water bottles. Many schools have water-filling stations, and all schools have water fountains
  • Dress students in loose, light-colored clothing
  • Pay attention to signs of dehydration which include dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, muscle cramps, and increased thirst. Pay attention to the people around you too to keep everyone healthy and safe
  • PUSD is using the latest version of the National Weather Service's “HeatRisk” forecast tool to identify potential heat risks and levels of concern. It is a better indicator than using temperature alone because it takes into consideration:
    • how unusual the heat is for your location and time of the year, and
    • how long the heat will last
  • Remember that all student-athletes can be susceptible to the risks of exercising in a hot environment, particularly those participating in high-exertion sports. More information can be found on the CA Dept of Public Health website

Cell Phone Policy

A reminder about PUSD’s cell phone policy (Board Policy 5131.8 Mobile Communication Devices): While cell phones are not prohibited on campus, their use is limited during school hours to promote in-person interaction and connection. We encourage students to engage with their teachers and peers and participate actively in the classroom. Thank you for supporting our efforts to create a more connected and interactive learning environment.

Fire Relief Resources

We’re continuing to update pusd.us/firerelief with resources and information in support of students, families, and staff impacted by the Eaton fire.

LA Rises is a central place where Angelenos can find resources, learn about the status of recovery and rebuilding across sectors, and get trusted information from government resources, community organizations, and neighborhood leaders who are working in partnership to support the recovery of our shared hometown.

CalKIDS

CalKids offers a state-funded college savings program. All children born in California on or after July 1, 2022, are eligible for a scholarship, ranging from $25 to $175, regardless of income. Low-income students are eligible for scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500.

CalKIDS scholarships can be used for qualified higher education expenses like tuition, books, and even technology.

The CalKIDS Savings Program and scholarships are administered by ScholarShare529. To check your student’s eligibility and start saving for college, visit www.scholarshare529.com. You will need your PUSD student id number to complete the application.
