Back-to-School

We want you to have a great start to the school year, and here are some quick tips:

- Stay healthy! Make sure that your immunizations are up to date.

Get a Healthy Start to the School Year
To help you start the school year healthy and ready to learn, here are some reminders:
-
Make sure that your immunizations are up to date. Visit the California Department of Public Health website for information on shots required for school.
-
PUSD’s Primary Health Clinic is staffed by a nurse practitioner and primarily serves the district's uninsured, underserved students. Immunizations and other free or low-cost services are available for students by appointment.
-
Sports Physicals for PUSD Athletes are available at low or no cost at PUSD’s Primary Health Clinic (by appointment only).
-
COVID-19 testing is still recommended for anyone who suspects they have COVID-19 symptoms or who has had recent exposure to COVID-19. Test kits are available at the Education Center and school sites.
School Meals
School meals, including breakfast, lunch, and supper, are available every school day by PUSD Food & Nutrition Services. Meals are prepared each day at each one of our schools, and students have access to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Our student-driven menus are designed to meet strict nutritional guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. PUSD also strives to purchase products grown and produced by local farms and partners.
There is no charge for meals, and you don’t need to fill out a meal application from
PUSD Food & Nutrition Services
Alternative Income Forms
You can help Pasadena Unified unlock significant funding by completing the Alternative Income Form during registration. You can complete the form via
- The Aeries Parent Portal (Data Confirmation) process,
- an online survey available in English and Spanish, or
- a printable PDF form available in English and Spanish.
While the Aeries Parent Portal (Data Confirmation) and online survey must be completed for each student within your family, the printable PDF form allows you to list all students within your family on a single page.
Completing the Alternative Income Form is critical in partnering with the District to ensure we can make a tangible difference in the Pasadena community. If you need assistance with completing the survey, please contact your school's Community Assistant or main office.
Please complete your form ASAP.

Beat the Heat
PUSD has an operation plan for extreme heat. Here are some weather guidelines to stay healthy and safe:
- Stay hydrated and drink water or electrolyte-replacement sports drinks often.
- Please send children to school with refillable water bottles. Many schools have water-filling stations, and all schools have water fountains.
- Dress students in loose, light-colored clothing.
- Pay attention to signs of dehydration which include dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, muscle cramps, and increased thirst. Pay attention to the people around you too to keep everyone healthy and safe.
- PUSD is using the latest version of the National Weather Service's “HeatRisk” forecast tool to identify potential heat risks and levels of concern. It is a better indicator than using temperature alone because it takes into consideration:
- how unusual the heat is for your location and time of the year, and
- how long the heat will last
- Remember that all student-athletes can be susceptible to the risks of exercising in a hot environment, particularly those participating in high-exertion sports. More information can be found on the CA Dept of Public Health website.
