Pasadena Unified All Star Musical
At Pasadena Unifed and at Pasadena Playhouse, we believe the act of making theater is for everyone, and any young person at any skill level can have their life enriched by being a theater-maker. This program is not just for students with professional arts ambitions. Every young person can gain valuable skills through the work of “putting up a show.” Theater teaches students to think outside the box, solve problems creatively, collaborate with new teammates, and articulate complex theoretical concepts. Students develop confidence in their voices and bodies and develop their social-emotional and communication skills. They build community with students outside their respective schools and work together to see their vision realized.
This is a collaborative project for students and staff across all high schools, leveraging the "best or the best"! Students are on stage in all the leading and supporting roles, in the chorus and orchestra, and behind the scenes as the stage crew, and designing and building the sets, props, and costumes. PUSD teachers and teaching artists in theatre, music, dance, and the visual arts direct, guide, and mentor the students, with in-kind support from Pasadena Playhouse for mentorship. These unique productions feature the visual and performing arts contributions of over 200 PUSD students, and are enjoyed by approximately 6000 student and community audience members.
