ArtsLead Teachers

About

In 2016-17, The California Arts Project worked with PUSD K-12 specialists in all five art forms (theater, dance, visual arts, media arts, and music) to unpack the new National Core Arts Standards, which run parallel to the Common Core standards.  After looking at the new standards closely and developing a shared understanding of them, the teachers created a draft of ARTiculation, PUSD’s new Scope & Sequence for all five art forms. This draft was piloted in several schools, and used as a basis for developing lessons for use at Altadena Elementary School, one of three PUSD schools that received a Federal Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant to set their designation as an Arts Magnet.  This work continued in 2018-19, as the State of California formally adopted new arts standards.

In January, 2019, PUSD received the CA Department of Education Student Support and Academic Enrichment grant to complete the ARTiculation curriculum and lessons in the 5 art forms. We made significant progress on the curriculum and provided professional development in arts integration to teachers at all elementary schools in the district. We now have #artslead teachers at each elementary site who have received in depth training in arts integration and will continue to receive training throughout the school year to empower them as coaches to their teaching teams.
