Valedictorian: Xiomara McDonald
Congratulations to Valedictorian Xiomara McDonald. Xiomara has earned the title Valedictorian as the Marshall Fundamental Class of 2020 highest ranked student in her graduating class. She will deliver the valedictory address for the virtual commencement exercises. Xiomara has selected to attend Johns Hopkins University with plans to major in Neuroscience (pre-med).
Xiomara is recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Last summer she represented Marshall Fundamental as the American Legion Girls State Delegate. She is an AP Capstone Candidate for Diploma, conducting research and communicating her results on Cross- Sectional Evaluation of the Reflection of a Common Core Education in Problem Solving and Preparedness in Students Grades 8-12. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, where she served as Vice President. She is a Pasadena Tournament of Roses Student Ambassador, a Pasadena Educational Foundation Summer Enrichment Program Youth Leader, and a Methodist Hospital Nursing Floor volunteer. She has played on the Girls Tennis Team for four years and led as one of the Varsity Tennis Team Captains. Congratulations Xiomara well done!

Salutatorian, Roaa Shaheen
Congratulations to Salutatorian Roaa Shaheen. Roaa has earned the title Salutatorian as the Marshall Fundamental Class of 2020 second highest ranked student in her graduating class. She will deliver the salutaroy address for the virtual commencement exercises. Roaa has selected to attend Yale College with plans to major in Global Affairs/International Relations in the premed track. Roaa played on the Girls Soccer Team for 2 years. Her club activity includes membership in ACI Club, GirlUP, Key Club, the National Honor Society, Model United Nations (MUN) her leadership roles the MUN Founder and President (11th & 12th) and she is the GirlUp President.
For four years Roaa volunteered at the Burbank Islamic Center as an Assistant Teacher & Teacher working with up to 200 students ages 5 to 15 tutoring, assisting students, and grading. She taught students Islamic History, helping them memorize scripture, and teaching them how to read, write, and speak Arabic. In the summer of her junior year Roaa had an Internships at the Keck Chemotherapy Infusion Lab for 6 weeks where she performed nursing assistance tasks. For three years Roaa was a student volunteer at the Methodist Hospital where she was assigned to the Admitting Department where she transferred patient paperwork to doctors/nurses, discharged patients, sanitized wheelchairs, & made deliveries. In 9th grade Roaa won the Pasadena Human Relations Commission Award for her essay on solving the problem of low graduation rates due to homelessness.
Roaa has been recognized by the College Board as an AP Scholar with Distinction, she is a National Commended Scholar and an AP Capstone Candidate for Diploma conducting her research on “Tryptophan Hydroxylase 2: Discovering a Biological Explanation for the Distinctions Between the Antithetical Personalities”. Marshall congratulates Roaa on her success.
