    She has been accepted to UC Berkeley, Xavier University, Tuskegee University, USC, Sacramento State, Howard University, Charles Drew University, UC San Diego, Spelman College, San Diego State, LSU, San Jose State, Langston University, and UCLA. She plans on attending UCLA and will major in Human Biology. She would like to become an obstetrician and gynecologist.

    Haley is the recipient of the John Muir Service Award, the California Scholarship Federation Award, the Academic Letter Award, and she has received an Engineering and Environmental Sciences Medallion Award. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Haley has completed a total of 17 credits (6 college courses) at John Muir High School through their Early College Magnet Program and Pasadena City College.

    Haley has been involved in many of the clubs and programs offered at JMHS. She has participated in the Associated Student Body (ASB) and was the ASB Treasurer her Senior Year. She was on the track team since her sophomore year and was a cheerleader all four years, serving as Captain her junior year. She has also been a part of Upward Bound, Leaders for Change, InterAct Club, Ideal Youth, and the Black Student Union serving as Secretary her Senior year. Haley also was part of Ms. Black Pasadena this past year. Congratulations Haley Cogshell!

    Jose Gadea is planning to attend Pasadena City College in the fall. Jose has been part of the Puente program at John Muir and has been an outstanding student. For all of Jose’s hard work in the classroom, he earned the California Scholarship Federation award, the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, the Seal of Biliteracy, an Academic Letter and the Arts, Entertainment and Media Academy Medallion.

    Besides all of the academic accolades, Jose was also the Editor in Chief of John Muir High School’s newspaper, “The Blazzer.” Jose was also a member of the Interact Club and participated in community service projects around the city of Pasadena. Congratulations Jose!

  • Salutatorian: Vanessa Sanchez

    Vanessa Sanchez has been accepted to UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, California State University, Los Angeles, San Marcos State University, and California State University, Northridge. She plans to attend UC Berkeley and major in Molecular and Cell Biology. She would like to go to medical school in order to pursue her career as a pediatrician.

    Vanessa is a recipient of the John Muir Service Award, the California Scholarship Federation Award, the Academic Letter Award, the Arts, Entertainment, and Media Medallion Award, and the Seal of Biliteracy. Vanessa has completed a total of 21 credits (6 college courses) at John Muir Highschool through their Early College Magnet Program and Pasadena City College.

    Vanessa has been involved in several clubs at John Muir High School. She participated in the Associated Student Body (ASB) and was the ASB secretary her Senior Year. She also participated in the National Honors Society, the Puente Program, and Trio Talent Search.

    Saudia has been accepted to UC Merced, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley and UCLA. She plans on attending UCLA and will major in Journalism and Political Science. She would like to become a broadcast journalist and political activist. Saudia is a recipient of the Links Scholarship, Pasadena Foothill Association of Realtors Charitable Foundation scholarships, and a UCLA VIPS Scholar, and has also received an Engineering and Environmental Sciences Medallion Award. Saudia is also a member of Black Student Union, National Honors Society, Science Olympiad and Associative Student Body President.

    Saudia was on the golf and swim team since her junior year and was a member of John Muir’s Solar Cup. Congratulations Saudia Usher!
