Más Puentes / Menos Muros More Bridges / Less Walls
This collaborative project is designed to create connections between Blair’s International Academy students and Dual Language Immersion Program students. The workshop was kicked off in spring 2020 and was scheduled to culminate with an art exhibition and performance in May 2020 at the Armory Center for the Arts. The title of the show, Más Puentes / Menos Muros ( More Bridges / Less Walls), was generated by International Academy students. The art that students planned to create was to share the journeys and increase understanding about current and past immigrant and refugee communities in Pasadena. Due to the pandemic, the project had to terminate in March 2020. In spring 2021, the project restarted and was funded in part by California Humanities.
The workshops were designed and facilitated by writer/artist Sehba Sarwar. International Academy and Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program (DLIP) teachers Ms. Garcia and Ms. Arredondo played integral roles by working with students in between sessions and serving as translators during workshops.
The student work will be on display around Pasadena starting in June, 2021.
