Blair's hardworking cadets and instructors support well over 100 events a year. Some years even more! Former Senior Instructor at Blair, 1SG Turner, only recalls turning down one event, and that was due to already being overbooked. The most frequent recipient of our support is American Legion Post 13, followed closely by Congresswoman Judy Chu's office--she has Blair JROTC on speed dial! We do five events on Veterans Day alone. There may be JROTC programs that do just the minimum requirements to pass inspection, but JROTC programs like Blair excel above and beyond in commitment. Notably the other JROTC programs PUSD had were not in the community like Blair is, and those other programs have all ended.
In recent years Blair JROTC not only marched in, but also led the Black History Parade. Other parades cadets have participated in include the Pasadena Latino Heritage Parade, Madison Heights July 4th Parade and La Canada's parade. In Pasadena, events include for the Mayor's Office, Councilman Kennedy, Pasadena City Council, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, Tournament of Roses Committee, NAACP, Pasadena Elks and Pasadena City College. Blair cadets present the colors at Blair sports games and school gatherings, and also volunteer as ushers and in other ways at Blair, such as at Blair's musical theatre show, Ovations. The district and other schools also invite Blair JROTC, such as to PUSD retirement recognitions, the annual State of Schools Address, Marshall and Eliot.
JROTC serve beyond our Pasadena Unified area, traveling to San Marino, Glendora, La Canada and beyond. Cadets have appeared at the massing of the colors at Forest Lawn cemetary, events for Vietnam Veterans and Purple Heart organizations, Los Angeles Jewish Community Cemetary, Daughters of the American Revolution and many others.
