Dear Don Benito Parents and Guardians

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. We are excited about all the things we will do and learn this year for what is sure to be another outstanding year for our Scholars!

The staff here at Don Benito is a remarkably dedicated group of professionals that are working hard each and everyday to support our Scholar’s growth academically, socially, and emotionally.  We are proud to continue the implementation of our positive behavior expectations school-wide (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Have a Productive Day) as well as a multi tiered system of supports for both academics and behavior in order to support the needs of all our Scholars.

Alongside our staff, the passion and dedication of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC), African American Parent Council (AAPC), English Language Advisory Council (ELAC), and the Pasadena Education Foundation (PEF) has continually impacted instruction and been an integral part of our program here at Don Benito.  These groups consist of  amazing parents who commit their time, talents, resources, and energies for our Scholars’ education and benefit. They support our school in multiple ways including funding our Librarian, our Intervention Teacher and other support staff, as well as volunteering for our Science and Art Docent Programs.  PTA and PEF also provide events such as Fall Carnival, Family Fun Nights, and special dances.  I encourage you to become an active, serving member of our PTA and/or other parent groups.

There are several ways as parents you can stay up to date with the many activities at Don Benito. Please keep a look out for our weekly phone and email blasts (sent out Sunday evenings) as they detail the events for the upcoming week.  Teachers will also communicate with you through the Blue Folders (sent home Wednesdays), so please check them each week.  During the year, we will host Parent Education Nights on various topics to help parents support our Scholars at home.  Lastly, please call the main office if you have any questions.

As your principal, it is important to me that Don Benito maintains high expectations and a tradition of excellence that the community recognizes and embraces.  I aim to ensure Don Benito Scholars develop and utilize the 21st Century skills necessary for success in their future.  I hope your child has a terrific learning experience here at Don Benito and is college bound!

Thank you in advance for supporting your child’s success at school and for supporting our parent groups and events.  Have a wonderful school year!

    Paula Chamberlain
