The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) is a rigorous pre-university course of studies, leading to examinations that meet the needs of highly motivated secondard school students. IBDP students must complete an IB course in mathematics. Blair currently offers IB Math Studies SL. SL denotes this is a Standard Level course. This is a two-year course, though students may take Advanced Math and then enter Math Studies SL at the second year.
The IB Mathematical Studies course is a rich and varied combination of math topics designed to support students in their general education and offer the kinds of mathematics that are involved in many professions and walks of life that are not explicity mathematical.
The emphasis of this course is on developing students' mathematical reasoning, enhancing students' critical thinking abilities, solving mathematical problems embedded in a wide range of contexts, and using the graphing calculator effectively.
Further information on this course is available from IB.
