Dr. Merle Bugarin
I am honored to serve as the principal of Roosevelt Elementary School.
Roosevelt was recently recognized as a California Distinguished School and a 2014 CBEE Honor Roll recipient. The success of our school is the result of the strong partnership between staff, parents and community members; and rigorous instruction, which embraces the whole child. The student population at Roosevelt is diverse. A team of highly qualified teachers provides equity and access to all students through differentiated instruction while setting high standards for all. Staff receives ongoing professional development to refine their teaching practices using researchbased strategies that meet Common Core Standards and 21st Century expectations. The learning environment engages students in the four C’s: collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking. It is our goal to set the foundation for college and career readiness. Roosevelt’s Elementary School also prides itself in developing children who are caring and thoughtful members of our community. Students are treated as individuals, worthy of respect and capable of making good choices. The school rules promote students being safe, respectful and responsible at all times. The staff motivates students through praise, encouragement and incentives, as well as guides students through problem solving and conflict resolution. Our attendance continues to significantly grow. Three additional classrooms have been added this school year. A Pre-Kindergarten program was established this school year. It is our goal at Roosevelt to offer the community a multitude of opportunities for children to be prepared to achieve school success and become productive citizens.
We stand behind our school motto, “Roosevelt proud, college bound!
