The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) is responding to an unexpected and deeply concerning announcement from the U.S. Department of Education that halts the release of $6.9 billion in federal grant funding for K-12 education nationwide for Fiscal Year 2025. California stands to lose over $800 million in anticipated funds, including an estimated $1.2 million directly affecting PUSD.
In response to growing concerns among students, families, and employees about the impact of federal immigration enforcement, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) convened a special Board of Education study session today with board members, PUSD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco, city leadership, and trusted community partners.

The last day of school for students is June 5. This week, we honor the high school Class of 2025 and celebrate key milestones with the promotions of eighth and fifth graders. Congratulations to all our students and their families!
On May 23, 2025, the District and United Teachers of Pasadena (UTP) met to continue bargaining changes to language for the 2024-2025 negotiation season.

I want to take a moment as your Superintendent, and as a fellow parent and community member, to address the concerns many of you have raised following the Eaton Fire and the environmental impact it may have had on our schools.
As part of our response to the recent Eaton Fire, PUSD has completed the first phase of soil testing at all school sites. This effort, undertaken in partnership with a State-licensed environmental consulting firm, was guided by one core principle: the safety of our students and employees is not negotiable.
